Haven’t had the best year and am now lacking a pet to play with after work and in the evening. Looking to fill the bird void with reading, but I’m having a hard time finding a novel that is really engaging where I want to read more. I seem to be stuck choosing mildly pleasant books. Tried authors I like (Taylor Jenkins Reid, Curtis Sittenfeld, Renee Rosen, Ali Hazelwood) and new release but nothing.
I like general/literary fiction, historical fiction and romance. Some books I loved have been Demon Copperhead, The Grapes of Wrath, most Emily Henry, Christina Lauren or Abby Jimenez books. I also like Anne Tyler and Emma Straub’s novels.
Thank you 😊

If you liked Grapes of Wrath, East of Eden was one I couldn’t put down and was deeply invested in.
*The Nightingale* by Kristin Hannah
The Wedding People by Alison Espach is delightful (contemporary fiction)
Dial “A” for Aunties by Jesse Q. Sutanto is fun (romcom)
The Thorn Birds by Colleen McCullough (historical fiction) magnificent
Have you read The Heart’s Invisible Furies by John Boyne? A saga about an orphan that covers many decades. Sad, but lots of dark humor as well. I’ve seen him compared to John Irving, who is my favorite. He’s also dark and funny. A Prayer for Owen Meany is everyone’s favorite. I loved World According to Garp.
