hey all, this time, i’m looking for a solid horror book with a female main character, much preferably written by a woman. ideally with some sort of sapphic undertones, but not entirely required. the horror trope itself is a looser question, i’m still trying to get fully into the genre. i’m looking for something with a decent amount of realism, i don’t want a whole world building experience. also not really looking for anything typically found in Y/A sections, im looking for something heavy and wordy, ideally also with a central underlying message. i know that’s kind of a weird set of requests, but if y’all know of any that fit this criteria, please do share! thank you!

    1. You need Emma Donoghue. She is the PERFECT author for this as she is sapphic and does a lot of psychological thriller stuff

Also, ‘ The Little Stranger’ by Sarah Waters

Plain Bad Heroines by Emily M. Danforth. It’s a bit of a queer comedy-gothic-horror-mystery novel.

    3. Going to suggest a couple!

      – The Eyes are the Best Part – the oldest daughter of a Korean-American family is adjusting to her father leaving them. Has sapphic undertones.

      – Diavola – the black sheep of the family tries to deal with attending a family vacation in a haunted villa. Main character is bisexual.

      – My Sister, the Serial Killer – the oldest daughter is trying her best to protect her younger sister, who is a serial killer. No f/f but very lovely!

Her Body and Other Parties by Carmen Maria Machado. It’s a collection of horror short stories about women, some of them with queer themes.

Spread Me by Sarah Gailey (if a non-binary author is OK)
