Hiya!
Was wondering if anyone had recommendations for books based on the kind I'm reading lately. All somewhat dark and focused on humanity at its worst (sometimes at its best too).
- Adam Johnson – The Orphan Master's Son
- Gillian Flynn – Sharp Objects, Dark Places, Gone Girl
- David Foster Wallace – Infinite Jest
- Stephen King – Needful Things, Desperation
- Thomas Harris – Silence of the Lambs, Red Dragon
- Hubert Selby – Last Exit to Brooklyn
- Bret Easton Ellis – Lunar Park
- John Fowles – The Collector
- Shirley Jackson – everything
- Katherine Mansfield – everything, especially short stories
- Ian McEwan – The Cement Garden
- Angela Carter – The Bloody Chamber
My taste is kind of middlebrow right now — nothing too trashy, but Bolano's 2666 defeated me when I tried to get through it last month.
Thanks a lot! 🙂

Check out Claire Keegan’s novellas, you might like them. I’ve only read Small Things Like These but I know the others are similar in tone.
*The Devil All the Time by Donald Ray Polloc*k. Gritty Southern Gothic noir about small-town cruelty, violence, and religious mania. Great writing and reads almost like a memoir. Excellent novel!
