Hi everyone, I’m looking for recommendations for fiction books for a reluctant 13 year old boy. At the moment he desperately avoids eeading, but we’re going on holiday soon and device time will be limited so I think this is a good opportunity to try and ignite a passion for reading (emphasis on try!)

He does have a decent reading age and is intelligent. He read the whole ‘Wild Wood’ series last year, so horror themes are good. Also loves anything Japanese. So any Japanese horror series about? 😂😂

    TIA

Edit: Dread Wood not wild wood!

My son loved Ender’s Game at about that age. You might also try the Tinker series by Wen Spencer

I just mentioned this in another thread, but it seems relevant here too. My son is 15 and hates reading. He’s only ever read and finished one book that I recommended- The Curious Incident of the Dog in the night-time. He loved it.

For travel, maybe try audiobooks. My son has a strong auditory preference for learning. We turned him into a reader in part by reading to him (through high school) and listening to audiobooks together on car trips.
