hello! i’ve been getting back into reading as a hobby now that i have the time for it and my most recent read / currently reading is lapvona by ottessa moshfegh. i really love historical horror, especially medieval and religious undertones and themes (i majored in anthropology lol) and the discomfort that comes with reading this has been so interesting and i’d love more books similar to it in theme, content, etc. thank you all!!

Between Two Fires (Christopher Buehlman)- for more medieval horror. This one is just really, really excellent.

Perfume (Patrick Suskind)- for more period piece sensory gross out horror.

Pilgrim (Mitchell Luthi)- Not a personal fave, but it’s medieval horror that has religion as its central driving theme. Very long, and a slow burn. VERY thoroughly researched.

A Short Stay in Hell only really fills the religious undertones you are seeking, but it is absolutely fantastic and worth a read. It’s only a novella, iirc.
