i’ve fallen in love with all the lovers in the night (mieko kawakami) for its everyday interactions, poetic writing, themes of femininity and society, and its slow-to-digest philosophical ambiguity. similarly, a short stay in hell (steven l. peck) stood out to me for its observations on the human condition, literary minimalism, and the generous space it leaves for my own interpretation (of which there was much to do, which i adored). i’d love more books that are slow, easy to digest, introspective, existential, and socially critical. classics welcome, any japanese authors of this caliber, i'd enjoy too, and you may use both books together or separately for suggestions 🙂 thank you!!
