Hi! I'm looking for a new book to read. Life has been stressful lately and I want to use my day off today to relax and read in bed while listening to the rain.

My favourite books usually have some complicated family dynamics, are a bit traumatic and dark. Hoping to find something similar to some of these:

    • The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver
    • Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver
    • All books by Tiffany McDaniel
    • The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt
    • The Secret History by Donna Tartt
    • Cleopatra and Frankenstein by Coco Mellors
    • Sorrow and Bliss by Meg Mason
    • All the Ugly and Wonderful Things by Bryn Greenwood
    • Boy's Life by Robert McCammon
    • We Were The Mulvaneys by Joyce Carol Oates

I just finished reading, and enjoyed, Wild Dark Shore and a couple of books by Tracey Lange. I like a bit of a longer book, and don't mind having my soul destroyed by a book!

    Thanks so much!

All My Puny Sorrows by Miriam Toews, and Shuggie Bain by Douglas Stuart.

    2. Bastard Out of Carolina – Dorothy Allison (my favorite book, if I had to choose one)

She’s Come Undone – Wally Lamb

      Ordinary People – Judith Guest

If you’re in for very long and very soul crushing, A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara is certainly both of those things with absolutely beautiful writing. You might also like The Great Alone or The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah

    4. I also love coming of age books, like The Girls from Corona Del Mar by Rufi Thorpe and The Heart’s Invisible Furies by John Boyne
