Hey everyone, I just finished the entire Expanse saga and absolutely loved it, especially the blend of hard sci-fi world-building, complex political intrigue between Earth, Mars, and the Belt, and the way the characters evolve under pressure. The crew dynamics aboard the Rocinante, the believable tech (like the Epstein drive), and those moral dilemmas (looking at you, Naomi!) really pulled me in.
I’m looking for my next binge-read that captures a similar vibe. Ideally:
- A rich, realistic space opera setting
- Multi-layered political or corporate conflict
- Well-drawn characters facing tough ethical choices
- Plausible technology and world-building details
What series or standalone novels have you enjoyed that check these boxes? All recommendations appreciated!

Have you read the Red Rising Saga? The first book reads somewhat YA, but it takes off in an explosive direction after that with the vibe you outlined here. One of my favorite sci-fi series ever.
Lois Bujold’s Vorkosigan saga.
