I feel so many things reading it: wonder, sadness, frustration with the narrator’s selfishness. And yet, that too feels intentional, a reflection of how often we overlook the people around us until it’s too late.
There’s a stillness in the storytelling, but underneath it: grief, memory, and love, especially for the small, unnoticed things that shape our lives. And cats!
The surreal framework like a devil, a disappearing cat, a negotiation with death, makes it a fascinating read. But the emotional and philosophical impact sneaks up on you, subtle yet sharp…. It’s like a meditation on life and what really matters when time is short. I need more of this please 🙏🏻

Strange Weather in Tokyo
The Travelling Cat Chronicles by Hiro Arikawa — similar themes, told from the point of view of the cat. It’s a beautiful book.
