A random book I was obsessed with as a kid: MILA 18 by Leon Uris. It’s about the Jewish resistance in Warsaw during WWII.

The Lion Women of Tehran by Marjan Kamali
The Stationary Shop by Marjan Kamali
There are Rivers in the Sky by Elif Shafak
The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store by James McBride
The Book of Goose by Yiyun Li
If I had to pick a favorite of these it would be Rivers in the Sky because it covers multiple time periods and is just so so beautiful

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak (sic).

Pauline Gedge has a lot of good historical fiction. I really like The Eagle and The Raven by her. It’s set in Britain during the Roman period, and it’s about the British tribes rising up to fight the Romans.
Kristin Lavransdatter by Sigrid Undset is set in Medieval Norway and follows the life of Kristan from childhood to death.
Both of these are really long- like more than 600 pages long, so here are a few smaller ones:
Rosemary Sutcliffe writes historical fiction set in Roman times. Her style is a little more old fashioned in terms of language and sentence structure, but most of her books are written for middle grade kids, so nothing too heavy, and the stories are simpler. Eagle of the Ninth and Outcast by her are two of my favorites.
The Color of Air by Gail Tsukiyama is also pretty good. It has alternating POVs, and it’s set in Hawaii in the 1930s.
