I read a book recently where the character is this massively successful lawyer with an IQ of 150, able to mentally calculate long sums, pretty much photographic memory, who is about to make partner, makes a mistake, has a massive crisis, moves to the British Countryside, becomes a housekeeper, and learns to appreciate life without a massively toxic work environment (fired after working a full seven days a week for seven years and completely shunned by the entire law firm).
I like the idea of a book character outright refusing to pursue a career according to the gifts that they have. For instance, instead of becoming a doctor or a lawyer or finding a place in academia, the main character wants to make pottery, build their own treehouse, or organise a cat shelter.
Not sure if this is too much or too little information, but any recommendations along these lines would be great.
