I'm currently on page 208 >! after the second night in the tent !< of Young Mungo by Douglas Stuart and I have to take a break and a breather for, if you've read it, obvious reasons. The fact that >! he had packed a board game !< just broke me after what I just read. The whole thing is so dark and sad.
To requests: first, please tell me the rest of the book is going to be sunshine and daisies (I know it won't be but I desperately want a silver lining), and
second: I want to read through my TBR pile before getting anything else. My next read should be a palate cleanser. My options are:
- Lonesome Dove
- The White Boy Shuffle
- Little Monsters
- A Thousand Roads Home
- Here and Now and Then
- The Death and Life of Charlie St.Cloud
- Corrag (I think this might be geographically too close to Mungo)
- Open Water
- Lie With Me
- Say Nothing
- On Earth, We're Briefly Gorgeous
This is How You Lose The Time War (I've attempted this multiple times but never made it the past the first few pages) - One True Loves
- Atonement
I think a few of them are pretty sad, too, but which ones are an absolute no-go after having my heart broken by Young Mungo? What's the safest bet?
