I’ve only read a couple DA book but I’m looking for something that’s less focused on the English/Literature/Classics/etc studies and students. Is there anything where a student is studying like Chinese literature/philosophy/etc? It wouldn’t have to be all the characters (like all the theater kids in If We Were Villains), or even the main character (though ideally), but maybe just one of the (prominent) characters?
It wouldn’t have to be a major part of the story. Like instead of a character’s room having a bust of Shakespeare in the corner and the complete works of Dickens and Austin, there may be a wall scroll of a Confucian analect in the corner and the room has an Asian aesthetic. Instead of having philosophical discussions over a chessboard while drinking Earl Gray, they could do it over a go board while drinking oolong.
Sinology became more prominent in European universities starting around 1860 (according to Wikipedia), so I think there’d be DA potential. It wouldn’t need to be about China specifically (my preference would be Japan), but that would probably be the most likely.
I’ve read Babel, so I’m wondering if there’s anything else.
Thank you.

This isn’t Dark Academia but it’s satirical and entertaining & great social commentary: Disorientation by Elaine Hsieh Chou. I loved it.
