Hi! This is a bit embarrassing but I’d really like a few book recommendations!

A bit of backstory, I got sick a few years ago and developed FND (Functional Neurological Disorder) this has caused a lot of problems for me, that I am seeking help for. But one thing I lost when I got sick was my “ability” to read books. Speech and Language therapy (with NHS) said they can’t do anything to help me due to it being caused by FND. Even though they said it’s had a similar effect as a stroke.

I’ve been trying for a while but I would really like some help. Audiobooks don’t work as I can’t focus on them.

I’m thinking about getting a new kindle as my old one is really slow and kinda hard to use now, it’s laggy and frustrating.

I can’t actually remember what I used to read but I know I love movies like Lotr. I actually just finished watching the Hobbit movies for the first time!

I don’t have a good gauge for my reading level now but I found it hard to read the first Harry Potter book, barely made it through the first chapter after a long time.

I’m sorry to ask but my condition isn’t treatable but with summer ending I want to be able to get cozy under a blanket and read like I used too.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thank you

      Some random suggestions to try:

Contemporary middle grade books. (Contemporary because the language is more familiar.)

Reading the text and listening to the audiobook version at the same time.

      Hi-lo books (example list: https://sfpl.bibliocommons.com/v2/list/display/380247022/711718427)

      Graphic novels.

      Children’s picture books.

      Poetry like Mary Oliver.

Middle grade novels in verse (like Something Like Home by Andrea Beatriz Arango.)
