My Mom, who is not a reader, surprised me recently and asked me to get her a book from the library. Since she doesn’t read and doesn’t have a list of favorites for me to go off of, I really have nothing to base my recommendations for her on…Basically, what I have is what I know she would not like for sure which I’m gonna list below with bullet points.

no heavy profanity (especially no f-bombs)

no sex scenes

m/f if there is a romance and keep in mind that my mom is older so preferably nothing immature or with too young characters

no times (I definitely want it to be an average sized or shorter read since she doesn’t read very often so I don’t know her reading stamina)

Jan Karon’s Mitford series

no sci-fi or fantasy

nothing dark or stressful

maybe something by Rosamunde Pilcher – however her books are on the longer side and do have sex though closed door and I’m not sure my mom would care for that.
She tried Jane Austen years back, but I remember that she found the writing difficult and I don’t think she finished. She also tried Corrie Ten Boom’s The Hiding Place, which I think was too stressful for her because of all of the terrible things that happen in it.
My Mom has had a really hard year, and I think it would be great if she could get into reading and find something light and sweet. I would love to share with her since this is never something I’ve been able to do in the past.
