I'll be honest, for most of my life I've thought poetry was largely for pretentious nerds but recently I've been coming around to it. I still have a hard time understanding the seemingly needless line breaks (barring Shakespeare) but these are, so far, the only poems I've enjoyed:
- "Suicide in the Copse" by Robert Graves
- "Crow's Fall" by Ted Hughes
- "The Night Dances" by Sylvia Plath
- "Resume" by Dorothy Parker
- Inferno by Dante
My favorite would easily be the Robert Graves if that helps at all.

Galway Kinnell -especially Promissory Estoppel.
And a lot of Clive James’ later work as he was approaching death.
