I’m in a book club and the theme is historical fiction this month. We each get to anonymously nominate a book and then we vote for which we’ll read. The only thing is…the (admittedly few) historical fiction books I’ve read have been very heavy, somewhat depressing reads.

I’m just finishing chemotherapy and have a stressful month ahead with going back to work, so I’m hoping to nominate something pleasant that people might be excited to vote for and read. (Even better if your suggestion is humorous!)

I’m trying to shake off the bad vibes of the last year and have a nice time! ☺️

Hey there! I’ve got just the book for you: “A Gentleman in Moscow” by Amor Towles. It’s a delightful and witty historical fiction novel that’s sure to lift your spirits! Hope you enjoy it! 📚✨.
      Happy shopping! 🛍️

I remember thinking Amelia Peabody was hilarious.

All Creatures Great and small is really funny.

Georgette Heyer’s Regency books are fun. Three of my favorites are Frederica, Sprig Muslin, and The Talisman Ring.

    4. HOW historical fictiony does it have to be? My first thought was All Creatures Great and Small but it’s not about a specific event.

Not sure if this would count for your purposes, but To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis is very funny. It’s technically science fiction, since the characters travel from the 2050’s to the 1880’s via time travel. But it’s mainly farce and comedy of manners!

    6. Midnight’s Children by Salman Rushdie. I wouldn’t say it’s “lighthearted”, but it is satirical and uses humor.
