I love a good ocean/tropical setting. Have read Sphere, Island of the Blue Dolphins, The Old Man and the Sea, Jaws, The Meg, etc.
Looking for something with a rich setting and exploration of marine life that is a fiction. Disaster/tropical setting might be interesting.
Carl Hiaasen is a little crass for me.
Not looking for horror and please don’t recommend anything like Our Wives Under the Sea.

I bet you’d love Playground by Richard Powers. 🙂
Fluke:I know why the winged whale sings by Christopher Moore
Historical fiction but the Master and Commander books by Patrick O’Brian. One of the protagonists is a doctor for whom biology is his hobby, so all kinds of animal life is discussed. The writing’s deliberately old fashioned but the series is so rich.
The Mountain in the Sea by Ray Nayler, one of my top reads last year.
The Mermaid of Black Conch by Monique Roffey
The Sea Wolf by Jack London
Have you read The Swiss Family Robinson? 🙂
