So I decided to pick up The Invincible by Stanislaw Lem because I loved the game. Life's been weird so the escapism of retro sci-fi seemed right up my alley (even though I have a general idea of the dark direction the story's going)
The problem is I'm struggling with visualising all the fancy scifi stuff. I've read The Martian, Project Hail Mary, and Hyperion so it's not like hard sci-fi is particularly new to me (although Hyperion is more 80s tech meets straight up magic).
I was fine with the first few pages, where they are landing the ship. But then they describe the robots of the ship and I'm struggling between my idea of them from the game and how they're described here.
I should mention it's been a long time since I read anything. It's been a couple of months since my last book, Pride and Prejudice, so I might be a bit rusty.
I'm tempted to leave the book for now and focus on something more down to earth like Frederica before moving onto hard sci-fi.

For me, personally, when I read I receive a mix of visual, auditory, and ‘concepts’, rather than it straight up playing like a video in my head (this varies person to person). You may not be getting 100% of the visuals, but if you let your other ‘senses’ take over you may find yourself more immersed, and in my case actually helps build the ‘visual’ puzzle. It’s also likely that the game designers will have taken their own artistic license versus what’s described in the book, so it may be better to try and read it without attempting to match your first impression with what’s on the page–this can absolutely be difficult after you’ve established a first impression of something, however.
