Just a quick question:
After seeing some other comments about Cormac McCarthy's book, I am eager to read it. I see that it is the second book in a trilogy; is there any particular reason I should wait and read the first book? Or does The Crossing stand on its own? Any spoiler-free advice welcomed; thanks!

You can read the Crossing first. All the Pretty Horses is the first in the trilogy, but that and The Crossing are two separate stories that can be read in either order. All that matters, if you’re gonna read the whole trilogy, is that you read both before Cities of the Plain.
ATPH is more accessible IMO.
The last half of The Crossing is difficult for new CM readers , I thought.
