I’ve blitzed through all of McCarthys work and adored it, I’ve tried Faulkner but struggled personally but may revisit.
I’ve recently enjoyed On The Beach by Neville Shute and at The Sisters Brothers by Patrick DeWitt although I do prefer a darker, grittier story. I’m looking for book with similar themes to perhaps The Crossing or Outer Dark by McCarthy but I’m open to suggestions.

More in the vein of Suttree rather than Outer Dark, but Charles Portis’ work is incredible. Definitely tends more towards black comedy than out and out tragedy but his books exist in a similar “mythical Americana” as McCarthy’s. Highly recommend.
