(Tldr at the end) I’m in my late 20s and I’ve been dealing with chronic illness for the past decade or so, so I’ve missed out on a lot of the typical young adult life. I’ve missed most of the milestones you’re supposed to hit in your 20s and I feel so far behind all of my peers. I’m starting to feel like I’m so far behind that there’s just no way I can catch up – like I’ve missed the window to build the foundations of my life experience and now that’s it, I missed the train. I’m sick of reading coming of age stories about people in their 20s having adventures that I know I’ll never have.
So I want to read about people whose lives didn’t really start until much later in their life than usual. I want to read about late bloomers, whatever that means to you. Fiction or nonfiction (especially memoirs) are both great.
TLDR: I lost my 20s to chronic illness and now I’m looking for fiction or nonfiction books about late bloomers who still had interesting lives even if they got started really late.
