I've always been into fantasy novels, having read all the "classics" and Discworld being my favorite novel series.
What I'm currently searching for are novels that are "low fantasy" in that they focus on the lives on the common folks in the fantasy world, rather than follow an heroic fantasy structure. It's something I've only seen in comicbooks/manga and the closest I've read would be Discworld books involving The Watch.
I'm also fine with books that aren't necessarily fantasy, but follow the same general idea.
Would anyone have a specific novel in mind that'd fit this niche?

If you’re into stories that stay grounded with the “boots on the ground” perspective, focusing on common folk rather than chosen heroes, you might want to give The Last Light of Rome a look. It’s technically historical fiction, not fantasy, but it scratches that exact itch. It follows a ragtag mercenary company during the Siege of Constantinople in 1453. No magic, no chosen ones; just ordinary (and slightly cynical) soldiers trying to survive a siege that’s falling apart around them.
I picked it up on the way back from work the other week on Kindle, and then bought the paperback after that. It’s a bit rough round the edges in places because it’s self published, but well worth a read at £2.99.
