Hi, i've just had my surgery. The recovery period would take at least 4 months, which is a drag, but I'm looking forward to continue my reading habit with novels from recent years or from last decade, preferably literary, that are considerably easier to read, under 200 page-ish, but still compelling. Any genre is fine!😁 (but recommend me some horror, thriller, or comfy fiction, if you can)
thanks a bunch! i hope you're all in good health😊

I had surgery 6 weeks ago, Grady Hendrix was the perfect level of complexity for post surgery brain fog. Horrorstor is 248 pages with very generous spacing, and the paperback version is made to look like an ikea catalog. Not literary in that its kind of campy and doesn’t take himself too seriously in his writing, but he’s not a shit writer
The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells would also be a good choice. Also not very literary, but quick and light.
Earthlings by Sayaka Murata if you have no major triggers. Convenience Store Woman by her is fairly cozy. Earthlings is somewhat on the more literary side. Go in as blind as possible with Earthlings if you decide to read it.
Sourdough by Robin Sloan, somewhat literary cozy and endearing magical realism.
The Kamogawa Food Detectives by Hisashi Kashiwai and We’ll Prescribe You a Cat by Syou Ishida for Japanese cozy
Margo’s Got Money Troubles by Rufi Thorpe- cozy, adorable, more lighthearted than the blurb leads you to believe, and theres that faint hint of literary but not quite there.
Premee Mohamed has a variety of recent short novella-things. My favourites are The Butcher of the Forest and And What Can We Offer You Tonight.
Comfort Me With Apples by Catherynne M. Valente. Horror
The Worm and His Kings by Hailey Piper. Horror
A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers. Cozy sci fi.
“Convenience Store Woman,” by Sayaka Murata
