How do you decide what book to read next? I have so many books that I want to read — sometimes I get paralyzed when trying to decide what’s next! I am thinking about experimenting with how I choose what book to read next and I’m curious how other people choose.
Do you keep with the same genre?
Do you bounce around genres? Or rotate?
Do you rotate between fiction and non-fiction?
Do you decide based on your mood?
Do you choose based on whether you bought the book at some point or just got it from the library?

I read like a fish: I nibble until I’m hooked.
I pull out a selection of books I think I want to read next – usually 3-5. I read the first 10-20 pages of each book and then continue on with whichever one hooks me the most.
Sometimes I make up goals for myself. Last year I wanted to read equal amounts fiction and nonfiction so I switched back and forth each book. This year I want to majority nonfiction, so I select different subjects/nonfic genres for each book so I’m not, for example, reading 2 history books back to back.
I look at the absurd number of books on my shelf that haven’t been read (that I keep adding to despite telling myself “I have books at home”) and decide that I need the book in my Amazon cart and order and read that.
