Help! I’ve hit my first slump ever. Every book I pick up feels mediocre than the last, even though I’m trying different years, genres, authors, anything I can think of. My fate is in your hands.
For reference, I typically read 2-3 books a week no problem by reading before and after work everyday for an hour/a few hours.
My fav genres are fantasy, lit fic, romance (not contemporary mostly historical), and nonfiction.
My favorite reads this year in no particular order:
The Spear Cuts Through Water by Simon Jiminez
The Daevabad Trilogy by S.A. Chakraborty
The Anthropocene Reviewed by John Green
The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater
Know My Name by Chanel Miller
The Rakess by Scarlett Peckham
Against the Loveless World by Susan Abulhawa
Please suggest me a book that hooked you from the beginning or you would suggest based off this list all I want is to finish a book!

Based on your list, including Susan Abulhawa’s book I would recommend How Beautiful We Were by Imbolo Mbue. I thought it was excellent. It’s set in a fictional location in Africa and explores progress and tradition and family and community.
East of Eden
Flowers for algernon (only book that made me cry)
Animal farm
Misery
The road
Ohhh how I loved the Raven Cycle. Maggie Stiefvater I think also wrote a series that started with Shiver? I also enjoyed John Green’s new book Everything is Tuberculosis. Also Talking to Strangers by Malcolm Gladwell is also one I loved but I listened to it and I felt it was superior to reading because of the clips of speeches and historical clips that were played.
The Night Circus is one I wish I could read for the first time again.
If you want to try contemporary romance without a ton of spice anything by Abby Jimenez is good but I just finished Say You’ll Remember Me and it was a one day read for me.
Good luck!
