Looking for a mature/dark novel that makes you think.

I only started reading to books/audiobooks recently. I like a book as mature as the shining and/or a book as well written as blood meridian. I personally really like sherlock holmes as a character but the stories themselves dont do it for me. I know I'm basically asking for the perfect book but I really want a book that I'll enjoy while learning from it since I'm also taking up writing as a hobby.
