Hi, I am a 30 yr old who tends to get easily distracted and has terrible routines that I’m trying to fix through reading but more often then not I do not think of picking up a book because I am distracted with a multitude of other things. When I do finally download a book on my ereader, I find myself reading books about self help and psychology related books but because I lack a good reading discipline those books then tend to be rather too difficult to the point where they become more of a struggle to read than something fun that I can wind down to before bed. English was always my second language which made word processing a bit difficult for me but I’ve improved my understanding but I never really improved the speed at which I read in English or process the words on a page, it is rather opposite of how I process words in my native language, which makes it feel as if my reading level is at a 5th grade or so as I would often lose the idea of what I just read and have to repeat the page or even worse would take forever to read a paragraph due to just being a slow reader.
I would like to pick up some books that are easy to get into and keep your attention that would help me through constant reading improve this reading/processing speed as well as improve my poor memory and with those things help me get engaged into other things in life. Basically I am trying to pick up reading to solve many underlying memory and processinng issues but not sure what books could be good to read. Some topics I like are sci fi, fiction, or books such that they follow characters and story build. I liked “the giver” book but I found myself not being into the next book in the story, it just didnt grab my attention as the precious one. I also liked the book “fallen angels” about the vietnam war, it had characters that were likable and an engaging story.
With all of that said, could anyone recommend me books that would work with my preference?
