As an English major, I’m embarrassed to say I haven’t read any classics outside of high school and the past two years of college— Frankenstein, Gatsby, To Kill a Mockingbird, 1984, etc… I definitely tend to pick up newer books. Suggest me your favorite classics— I’m open to any recs!

Bleak House! It is so funny and moving
Since you liked *1984* and *Mockingbird*, I’d say try *The Picture of Dorian Gray*, *The Catcher in the Rye*, and *Fahrenheit 451*. If you’re in the mood for something longer, *Les Misérables* is amazing.
I loved I Wonder as I Wander by Langston Hughes, and Jubilee by Margaret Walker.
The Good Earth
Gone with the Wind
Read The Haunting of Hill House this September/October!
Then read Jane Eyre shortly after for some winter vibes!
Moby Dick is surprisingly hilarious and very entertaining
My friends will say *Persuasion*, but I love how silly and funny *Northanger Abbey* is. *The Woman Warrior*, while analysed to death, is a rewarding American classic! Outside the US/UK, *Midnight’s Children* deserves its canonical status and is also darkly humorous.
