Books with simple everyday vocabulary and a lot of dialogs

Hello,
I'm learning a language and I need books that would help me.

I would like to find books that:
– Have a simpler vocabulary
– Have no specific slang
– Have A LOT of dialogs, and little descriptions
– Are somewhat modern (20th century)
– Concern with everyday life: work, relations, life in a city etc.
– Are widely translated (I'll look for Portuguese translation)

It can be a novel, or short stories.

Honestly, any scenario, but if it's good, it's much better.

Suggestions for books or writers are welcome.
