Hi everyone! This is a random thing I've been thinking about recently. How do you choose what to read next?!

I don't have a lot of favorite books, and I couldn't tell you who my favorite authors are, as I have only read 1-2 books of an author's backlist (2 or more being books in a series). I DNF a lot because I don't want to waste my time. Do you think I'd have a better chance of finding something I like if I return to a previously liked author? For example, I recently read and loved Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri, and she has a ton of other books that I could try out. Although, I'm starting to think I'm just picky… let me know your thoughts, I'd love to hear everyone's line of thinking!

As an author myself I struggle to find new reads but I am about to start fourth wing as I’ve heard so many great things about this series. What type of books do you usually read??

Yeah, reading more books from authors where you liked one of their books is generally a good way to find more books you like. However, some people prefer to choose books by topic or genre and not by author.

For me, I generally keep a long list of books that somehow catch my eye, and then I get an impulse like ”I want to read a haunted house story” or “I want something set in ancient times” or “I want dragons”, or even “I want something written in epistolary style”, then I go through my list and see what fits.

I do sometimes also find an author I like and read through everything they’ve written, although they’re usually not 100% bangers.

    3. I like to make a monthly TBR that includes a balance of fiction and nonfiction. But of course, I’m a mood reader at heart and will deviate when I feel like based on what I’m drawn to at the moment.

    4. I pick my TBR according to genres I m in a mood to read atm. So I basically do a quick search on Goodreads by filtering according to that genre and reading different premise and then just pick what I’m most interested in.
