I'm finding that I'm increasingly turning to AI to answer bookish questions or to help me understand what works best for me as a reader. My favorite prompts/use cases:
-
Help choosing the right translation. AI can very easily compare and contrast various translations and even provide side-by-side excerpts of the same passage to help determine which one will work best for you.
-
Asking about plot points or perceived plot holes. If something is nagging me after finishing a book (e.g. "why did somebody not simply do this or that"), I can pose the question to AI and get a response that helps me to reframe my understanding. It's kind of like an instantaneous book club.
-
Recommendations and profiling. I can provide AI with a CSV file of my Goodreads/StoryGraph ratings. With that info, AI can then recommend my next read or help me understand themes, etc. that do and don't work for me as a reader. StoryGraph has a lot of this built-in which is great, but it's nice to have it be a bit more open-ended too.
What prompts do you use and how have they helped your reading?

I don’t use ai for reading because I have a functioning brain and the ability to think for myself.
Just read a fucking book, jesus christ
I don’t, next question.
Fuck AI.
Can you people not do anything without consulting your little chat bots? Sad.
You don’t! Using AI to “help” you read a book fully defeats the purpose of reading a book.
AI is often full of false information.
By using this special AI called M.Y.B.R.A.I.N. It’s especially helpful because it has literally tens of thousands of years of training and input that shaped it into the model it is today. You should try it. 🙂
Using AI will make you dumb.

AI rots your brain.
1. Fuck AI
2. You’re not using AI to “enhance your reading”, your post is literally just about you wanting instant gratification for answers that you don’t want to engage in regular conversation with other people about
You could literally ask any of what you wanted ChatGPT or whatever to answer in this sub and gotten better/more thoughtful answers and perspectives but you’re just impatient 😭
How hard is it to just read your book and make up your own mind?
I use Natural Intelligence to read books.
