Specifically, is there a book that explains the concepts of electricity and/or magnetism in a way that a smart, educated non-scientist could understand? I took physics long ago and these concepts eluded me, and now I’d like to get at least a general understanding of how they work. Thank you!

The “Mister Tompkins” books by George Gamow are out of date on some of the cosmic stuff, but they give a very engaging intro to general physics, particles/quantum mechanics, relativity and so on.
