**Jamaica Inn** by Daphne Du Maurier ticks a lot of those boxes all at once.
It’s a historical piece, but also a nicely twisted exercise in atmospheric psych-out horror

The Mountains Sing by Nguyēn Phan Qué Mai is an amazing story of one family in Vietnam through most of the 20th century. It’s historic fiction, an epic family story, and packed full of the action of such a tumultuous period in Vietnam’s history. It’s also beautifully written.
