Dramatic gritty realistic fiction

Basically the title, I’m looking for a gritty and dramatic realistic fiction, preferably an easy read (not that it can’t get dark I just can’t read super dense books lately), that sorta encapsulates the feeling of someone telling someone else ‘I don’t know where else to go.’ Can be any age group or sub genre of realistic fiction.

I tend to wildly prefer FMC’s, but if a book is REALLY good please don’t hesitate to suggest it either way
