I believe this book is by a Black author, although I’m not entirely certain. It tells the story of a female secret art designer who decides to leave her old life behind and start anew in a mountain setting. She adopts a new identity and conceals her past and true profession. Her decision is driven by a need to escape a dangerous situation or person from her previous life.
While in the mountain town, she keeps bumping into a stranger and eventually falls in love with him. At one point, she is stopped by a cop on her way to the town; I can’t remember if she ends up falling for the cop or someone who is a friend of his. There is also a family that she grows close to, and they are friends with the person she falls in love with.
When her past catches up with her, she receives help from this family to navigate the challenges that arise.
