I want one that will make me cry but I won’t have to commit a long time to, preferably a short read.
Books that haven’t made me cry:
The outsiders
Night, Elie Weisel
I do have the book song of Achilles if you think that one might…
Thanks!

A Monster Calls made me very weepy
Tuesdays with Morrie also made me cry
Fight Night by Miriam Toews made me sob at the end
Migrations by Charlotte McConaghy
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott always gets me. It’s beautifully written, but some parts are just absolutely gut-wrenching.
Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes
Flowers for Algernon
The Sense of an Ending, by Julian Barnes
The Lager Queen of Minnesota
Brokeback Mountain by Annie Proulx
Death of Sleep by Anne McCaffrey
A couple different options that are both short : The Fault In Our Stars (YA/cancer) and The Bridges of Madison County (love story).
The Vanished Birds-Simon Jimenez
Never Let Me Go-Kazuo Ishiguro
The Bear-Andrew Krivak
The Story Sisters, by Alice Hoffman, has a couple of spots that get me every time I reread it.
Only two books have made me cry:
– *A Monster Calls* by Patrick Ness
– *When Breath Becomes Air* by Paul Kalanithi
“First They Killed My Father”, about the Cambodian genocide. It’s extremely emotional and worth the read.
The Color Purple by Alice Walker.
Pick yourself up some short stories by Steinbeck. Something that has the Red Pony and the Pearl in it. Enjoy your total devastation.
Hannah’s Gift, by Maria Housden
The Book Thief made me cry a couple of times, and one of them was so bad I threw the book across the room. It was a frustrated, angry, heartbroken cry. I love my books and would never throw them… except I did on that one.
