Hi, I’m 23m. I’ve been bed rotting all this summer break so thought i should start reading to divert my mind besides I’m using too much social media. I have no idea which genre should i choose. So you help me in choosing my first book. Should be interesting from start 🙂

    Thanks

It all depends. What type of shows or games do you like? Crime? Mystery? Fantasy? Horror?

Wow. That’s a big question. Do you want something life changing or just a good story? I’ve read quite a bit. Here are some books that have moved me: the corner of his eye (supernatural drama), the power of one (a masterpiece), the life of pi (easy to read but deep and spiritual. Same with the alchemist. The big obvious ones like lord of the rings and sci-fi epics like the culture series are cool, if you like deep revenge queer epics – cry to heaven by Anne rice is superb. If you want something to challenge you try handmaids tale and its sequel, if you want non fiction try a brief history of time, if you want a master horror post apocalyptic thriller then read the passage. If you want something spiritual read the power of now. These are just my personal takes.

    3. You do realize there is a certain irony in you asking on social media about a distraction away from social media.

      Here are my thoughts:

      Since you like GOT,

Jonathan Stange and Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke

      A wildcard suggestion,

The Secret History by Donna Tartt

    4. Shadow Of The Gods by John Gwynne. It’s the first of a 3 book series. Vikings, ancient gods, magic. It’s written from multiple perspectives.

Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman. Imagine if video games and D&D had a book baby

Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton. The books are so good.

    5. Earthlings by Murata Sayaka

I’m a slow reader and I finished this one in less than 48 hours. It contains heavy themes (maybe look for trigger warnings) and the pov is that of a young girl. The style is easy to follow and direct, it grips you from the very start.

If you decide to read it prepare yourself for a wild ride…

If you like sci-fi here are some suggestions from me.
      – Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler
      – The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury
      – Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
      – 1984 by George Orwell
      – The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adam’s (it’s a comedy as well)
      – Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir (in fact I might suggest you start with this)
      – Saga by Kenneth J Vaughn (it’s an ongoing comic book but they’re packaged in hard bound compendiums)
