My boyfriend isn’t much of a reader, but I figured tapping into an interest of his might pique something. Bonus if it’s just a great book that I would enjoy as a very pedestrian baseball enjoyer. Under 300 pages would be even better.
Thank you!
Ps: if it’s already a movie that might be a hard sell (moneyball etc)

David Halberstam has written great books about baseball: Summer Of ’49, The Teammates, and October 1964
One that’s beloved by many: The Soul of Baseball, by Joe Posnanski
A niche one I love, as a big college baseball fan: The Road to Omaha, by Ryan McGee
Bang the Drum Slowly
Charlie hustle
The Last Days of Summer. I’ve read it numerous times – great story and very quick read.
The Streak, about Cal Ripken Jr., is also a good one.
Odd Man Out
The Cubs Way: The Zen of Building the Best Team in Baseball and Breaking the Curse by Tom Verducci
The Brothers K — hands-down one of the best novels ever, about anything.
Moneyball by Michael Lewis. About how the A’s used stats to build and manage a team.
Blood Sport by Tim Elfrink and Gus Garcia-Robert. About the doping Biogenesis scandal in the 2010s. There is a fabulous film documentary called Screwball about the same scandal.
Slouching Toward Fargo by Neal Karen. About when the St. Paul Saints were the wild kids of independent league baseball (now they are a AAA team and down right “respectable”). Just crazy silly stories about amateurs and washed up pros and Bill Murray.
