I bought this book at a secondhand bookstore and I loved it so much. Unfortunately, I lost the book and it was supposed to be the first of a series. If I remember correctly, the book was named after the manor or house the widow was hired at.
The story starts with her husband dying in the mines. She started selling pies which was loved by a rich man. She was hired at the house. I don't remember exactly if this was during the regency or the gilded age but the book cover said it was a story that would be loved by fans of Downton Abbey which gives a peek at the upstairs and downstairs life.
I remember that part of the story was her being at odds with some of the other members of the help and her catching the eye of the rich family's son. The book also had chapters in the POV of the family members.
I would appreciate suggestions with any of these themes: widows overcoming obstacles, regency era settings where we see the struggles of both the help and the rich family they service, and food.
And if you happen to have read this exact story, I would also be so thankful if you can drop the title and author.
