I would be very grateful if any of you kind souls could recommend me a good book about finding meaning in life. I know it might sound a bit exaggerated, but I’ve lost interest in my career path and don’t know what to do with my life or what my purpose is.
It’s not just about my career — I also feel lost when it comes to hobbies, friendships, and even searching for a partner. Honestly, I don’t even know what I truly want anymore.
Maybe there’s a book out there that could help guide me toward some answers.

A Month in the Country by JL Carr
I have a couple of slightly odd recommendations.
*Metaphors We Live By* by Lakoff and Johnson. It’s about the construction of thought. Adamantly not in a you-can-do-anything-by-envisioning-success kind of way. More a “this is how our language affects our ideas and our lived experience” way, in a grounded, practical sense. It’s theoretical but very actionable. It helped me see what’s influencing my emotions.
Another book I found helpful for examining my goals, among other things, is one I recommend often. *No Trespassing* by Bakker and Bakker. It’s hard to find as it’s out of print, but it may be available via Interlibrary Loan. It’s truly worth it! It’s about human territoriality. Not about fighting each other for territory. Instead it’s about how each person has territory to manage, what the nature of that territory is, and how that territory interacts with that of others, as well as what’s involved in managing our territory. It’s a good starting place if you want to explore a new way of thinking of one’s identity that’s actually pretty useful.
And – I just want to say – you are so not alone. As the world changes, making any reliable predictions about our work and our relationships gets super challenging. I really hope you feel better soon.
