I've been listening to more audiobooks, and I'm trying to decide if I should count them as "read books." I've been getting active on GoodReads, but it kinda feels like cheating to list them as "Read" because I didn't technically read them. I either read a book or listen to the audiobook, never both.
What do you guys think?

I personally consider them read even if not everyone does. Just because someone else read the book to me doesn’t mean I got something different out of it. It’s honestly the only way I got through *Lord of the Rings* and other classic books.
You have full permission and authorization to mark any book read, whenever and however you choose. I read dozens of audiobooks a year
Yes, I say I read a book even if I listened to the audiobook.
Your brain can’t tell the difference. If your brain can’t tell the difference then there is no difference.
You consumed the book; it doesn’t matter if it was read to you or if you read it
No. Youve consumed content and understand the subject matter. You did not read. Reading is a verb. I dont know why people get stuck on this lol.
Yes. I don’t have anything to prove. I know how to read. If I do an audiobook instead for some books I can’t imagine why that shouldn’t count. I usually don’t because I struggle to focus on audiobooks, but others have the opposite problem and audiobooks help then focus. Reading isn’t a contest. Any way you find to enjoy the stories is fine.
I count it as “reading”. It requires concentration and thought and I can honestly say I’ve gotten a lot out of audiobooks just as I have books that I have read in the traditional sense.
Listening is not reading.
