Suggest me a book as an American going to Europe on a Mediterranean cruise for the first time

Hello! I’m looking for a book to learn more about the region of Europe that I will be visiting in about a month, specifically Italy, France and Spain. Apologies for being a stereotypical ignorant American, but I’ve never been outside of North America before and never paid too much attention to world history in school, but I would love to learn more about Europe and the Mediterranean before I visit, so I am looking for any book suggestions
