Just finished Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir, and I’m torn. On one hand, it’s a high-concept survival story with a clever protagonist and some genuinely emotional moments. On the other, I couldn’t help but feel like the science was simplified and the pacing uneven—especially compared to The Martian.

It’s like watching a Hollywood movie. You knew the entire time everything was going to work out so the steaks never felt exceedingly high, I never felt at any point like it was going to not work out. I personally like my sci-fi a little more dark, however, it was a fun read and I’m excited for the movie next year. It’s not a book I’m going to go back to and reread anytime soon.
