So I recently read Staircase in the Woods and decided to try out Black River Orchard. What’s his deal? It feels like reading a book written by Jekyll and Hyde. Like it’ll be chugging long so good then it’s like he can’t help himself and the prose falls apart. I don’t mind cursing but saying fuck outside of dialogue feels so weird to me!
Anyway I have some questions I guess about the Wendig universe(?).

I get who Creel represents. That’s very blatant. It just feels very random? Is it a reference to another book or just his way of tying books together? Because Creel is mentioned in Staircase in the Woods and Black River Orchard.

Is there a cult in his other books? In Black River Orchard two characters drive past an “obvious cult compound” with an obelisk or pyramid. I wanted to shout “PULL OVER LETS EXPLORE THERE” but it didn’t seem relevant. If it comes up later in the book no spoilers! Just wondering if it’s another Easter egg?
Should I read more of him despite my gripes?

I can’t stand him. I tried to read his Star Wars Aftermath book and it was insufferable. He refused to take any sort of criticism about it on Twitter when it first came out and would block people that disagreed with him.
