*(I AM NOT looking for “romance” aka sex/smut novels)
I’m working on the synopsis and query letter for my novel and I need to include at least two comps(novels with which to compare to my own novel) published within the last 10 years. This is for the purpose of selling the novel to editors and knowing where to put it on the “shelf” for buyers.
I’m at a loss because I haven’t found even one novel published in the last decade similar to mine. I need help.
My novel is a traditional gothic novel(psychological terror)written in a contemporary style and set in the present 2025 United States. The central story is a love story(there is no sex) featuring star-crossed lovers- a heterosexual woman in her late thirties and her love interest a heterosexual man of the same age.
Featuring heavily on the sublime and themes such as grief, miscarriage, family dysfunction, and small towns. And of course, a creepy old mansion
Again, I can only use books published in the last decade.
I need help. Thank you all for your suggestions.

Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia I’m not sure how much has to match your, but this matches a bit, the biggest differences are in setting (Mexico), time (early/mid 1900s I believe) and character ages are different (early 20s).
