I’m a huge reader of historical fiction, historical epics, epic fantasy, science fiction, and horror.
But every now and then, I’ll pick up an autobiography—usually from a musician or artist whose work I admire.
I won’t say their name here, but I read one from an artist who rose to fame in the ’90s. It was fascinating, but later I found out most of it wasn’t true.
They had built themselves into a character, and the book reflected that persona more than their real life. It was a self mythology… an invented story that served the mask they wore better than the person underneath.
What are some great autobiographies that you found compelling?

This will probably get commented a lot but I really liked ‘I’m Glad my Mom Died’ by Jeanette McCurdy
