Looking for book ideas for my third grader. He likes books where there are good vs evil fights. Dogman is way too simple for him. He read the hobbit and loved it, if that helps. I am just not sure what a good comp would be.
Redwall by Brian Jacques:
In this tale, anthropomorphic mice defend their peaceful abbey against an invading army of evil rats led by a ruthless warlord, with a young mouse hero rising to reclaim a legendary sword.

For lighter fare, I recommend The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents by Terry Pratchett . It’s definitely a good vs evil tale, though the title character is… well, Maurice has the morals of a cat. A take on the Pied Piper legend from the viewpoint of the rats- as with all Pratchett, surprisingly deep while being unremittingly hilarious.
If he wants a darker, deeper tale, I recommend Nation, also by Pratchett. A tale of grief, survival, faith and doubt set in an alternate Polynesia.
