A friend who doesn’t use Reddit asked me for suggestions, so here I am asking you.

She’s going through some rough times and is looking for a novel to sink into, but she doesn’t want to “taint” any of her favorite authors’ works.

Anyone know of any kickass heist novels? If they include paranormal, full blown fantasy or SF, that’s a huge plus. Romance included (het or not) is also a plus, as is steampunk.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

    1. Donald Westlake’ s Dortmunder series. Started in the 60s so it is dated but they’re really funny. And the lengths they go to to try to steal anything are amazing.

Void Moon by Michael Connelly. Even if you don’t care for his long-running series like Bosch or Lincoln Lawyer this is an excellent stand-alone heist.

    3. This is 100% a job for Craig Schaefer. The Daniel Faust series. Urban fantasy, sorcerers and demons in Los Vegas. The main character is a professional thief. The Long Way Down is book one.

    4. Portrait of a Thief (Li) for contemporary fiction.

The Worldwound Gambit (Laws) for fantasy (tie-in with the Pathfinder universe, but i think it can be read as a standalone.)

The Parker series and its spinoffs are outstanding. Dortmunder and Bernie Rhodenbarr are great as well and more lighthearted.
