I love narnia and Oz! I love the humor of the Princess Bride. I realize these are mostly for younger kids but I would love to find a book with the fun fantasy world building of Oz and narnia with the humor of the princess bride. I want a story that’s not really YA but has the innocence of it. I don’t like spice. I’ve read throne of glass and acotar. I like them both but don’t like the spice. I’m just looking for a new book series with a beautiful world and witty humor. I want castles and medieval settings. I love Robin Hood men in tights and Zelda and first knight. I just would love a series that gives me those feelings. But doesn’t feel like it’s written for kids. Any suggestions? And it doesn’t have to have NO spice. I’m okay with skipping things I don’t wanna read. But I just want something magical and beautiful.

    1. Between by L.L. Starling. Second book isn’t out yet but it checks a lot of your boxes

    2. Try T Kingfisher. The Paladin’s Grace series is fun and a lost of her fantasy stuff scratches that itch for me. Nettle and Bone, Thornhedge, Swordheart. They are adult, some spice, but its nowhere near ACOTAR, its pretty chaste, honestly.

the Tiffany Aching series by Terry Pratchett takes place mostly in one general location (countryside/farms, then rural mountains, and briefly a city), but the magic worldbuilding is wonderful, it has a constant sense of humor perfectly balanced with sensitivity for the topics and character’s feelings, and it’s a children’s/young adult series that deals with adult topics and doesn’t feel weird to read as an adult

the Rising World series that Martha Wells is writing right now is also great but it’s really heavy on world building and is definitely less comedic than Princess Bride

Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones is exactly what you are looking for. her Chrestomanci series is also wonderful

honestly, with fantasy I just prefer children’s books. I feel like a lot of adult fantasy is too Rigid Adult Topics Serious, it feels like authors get more creative with fantasy when they’re writing it for kids. if it’s for kids, it can’t be sex and it really can’t be bloodshed and tragedy all day long. you have to think outside the box and write something that’s genuinely entertaining

    4. “Tress and the Emerald Sea” by Brandon Sanderson -, very fairy tale, irreverent, while still having adult stakes. No spice.

“Strange the Dreamer” might be a good one.

“Ella Enchanted” holds up IMO. (Ignore the movie).

Not as many as I thought, I really dont read much innocent LOL.

Redwall by Brian Jacques and other titles in the series. Give it a shot – I think you will be pleased

    8. Off the top of my head, The Eyes of the Dragon, The Talisman and Fairy Tale by Stephen King were good. King was inspired by The Lord of The Rings so I’d recommend that and its prequel The Hobbit.

    9. Piers Anthony writes fantasy with that same sort of goofy wordplay. Also, the Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is sci-fi, not fantasy, but it has that same humour and is a great iconic series.

A Wizard of Earthsea, by Ursula LeGuin. All of her fantasy books are wonderful.
